Staff Sgt. Lior Arazi, 25, from Kibbutz Givat Haim Union, was a paramedic and soldier in the Shaldag unit, and fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip. He is survived by his parents, Orit and Nir, and three sisters: Moran, Sivan and Netta. His funeral will take place on Sunday at 15:00 in the military section of the Givat Haim Union cemetery.

"The hearts of all of us on the kibbutz were shattered. Lior Arazi z"l, a regular soldier in the Kingfisher, was killed as a hero in Gaza. It's hard to describe in words what a sweet boy you were, no one here will ever forget your shy and magical smile," former Knesset member Ram Shefa said of him.

Shefa said: "Last night after the terrible news, we sat with friends who guided you when you were in high school and looked at your correspondence with them on WhatsApp - all the correspondence reflected so much how important it was for you to be okay in front of your friends and in front of the instructors and not disappoint, under any circumstances and no one. A huge heart inside a tall and strong boy. At least I got your smile the last time a few weeks ago when we saw each other on the path outside your house. Dear Arazi family, a huge and loving hug from all of us."

The secretariat of Kibbutz Givat Haim Union said: "Staff Sgt. Lior Arazi is a third generation in Givat Haim Union. The 25-year-old served as a soldier and paramedic in the Shaldag unit and was supposed to leave for school in March. Before the army, he volunteered for a year of service in Hatzor HaGalilit. Lior is one of the most prominent sons of the kibbutz community. Always with a charming, kind, humble smile, surrounded by friends and a sense of humor. He recently moved with his girlfriend Maya to Jerusalem to begin the process of studying medicine."
