Tel Aviv – Fighting between the Israeli army and the Islamist Hamas continues unabated in the Gaza Strip, with Palestinian terrorists attacking Israeli soldiers in the southern Gaza Strip near the border early Sunday morning with anti-tank missiles, the Jerusalem Post newspaper reported. The Israeli military fired back. Just over a week after the start of the Israeli ground operation, Israel's army has taken journalists with it to the embattled Palestinian territory.
The Israeli ground forces are also targeting the head of the Islamist Hamas as they advance in the Gaza Strip. Israel's troops are "dismantling one Hamas battalion after another" and are "eliminating" Hamas leader Jahia Sinwar, The Times of Israel newspaper quoted Israel's Defense Minister Joav Gallant as saying late Saturday.

"We will find Jahia Sinwar and eliminate him. If the residents of the Gaza Strip get there before us, it will shorten the war," Gallant said, according to the report. Israeli forces attacked terror targets in the city of Gaza from both the south and the north and advanced into urban areas, it said.

Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari recently said that it was the intention of Hamas and its leader Sinwar to show the image of a destroyed Gaza and to blame Israel for the suffering of the people there. "They will not be able to hide the real culprits, and that is themselves, who have brought ruin to Gaza," Hagari had said.

The Israeli army has again given civilians in the Gaza Strip a window of opportunity to flee to the south of the coastal area on Sunday. The Israel Defense Forces would allow traffic on a southbound road between 10 a.m. and 14 p.m. local time (9 a.m. and 15 p.m. CET), an Israeli army spokesman wrote on Platform X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday evening. The army also published a map showing the designated road. The spokesman called on people to take advantage of the next opportunity to go south for their own safety.
