Concern in Washington: Lawmakers and senior officials in the US Secretary of State are concerned that Israel's purchase of 24,<> assault rifles could reach "extremist settler militias" and be used to transfer territory in Judea and Samaria. The officials expressed the concern to The New York Times on Monday as the country prepares to approve the weapons order.

According to the report, administration officials expressed to Israel the concern that the weapons supplied to the alert squads would end up in the hands of extremist networks. Jessica Lewis, a senior State Secretariat official, told the newspaper that "we received explicit assurances from the Israelis that the weapons would only reach units controlled by Israel's National Police."

Another senior source in the secretary of state clarified that none of the alert squads that will receive the weapons are located in Judea and Samaria. This contradicts National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's promise to transfer additional weapons to alert squads in Judea and Samaria.
