«

Ooh it's hot, it's hot!" Reported by France Bleu, these words, infrequent in the mouth of a bird, saved its masters from a domestic fire. On the night of Wednesday to Thursday 9 November, Baby, a blue parrot living with a couple in Lannilis, Finistère, alerted them to an abnormal heat that could have turned into a disaster.

A real pipelette during the day, the bird usually never speaks at night, says his mistress Virginie on the air of France Bleu, the winged creature perched on his shoulder. So when he starts coughing and saying "it's hot, it's hot" at 5 a.m., "it got us out of bed," Virginie explains.

Gilles, Virginie's boyfriend, spotted a "very strong smell in the main room," she recalled. The exotic animal had detected the start of an electrical fire behind the dishwasher, the only appliance the couple had not unplugged after the storm. "As far as the dishwasher was concerned, it was burning," Virginie continues. The couple then alerted the firefighters, who laughed heartily at this story, before reminding us that, without the heroic parrot, Virginie and Gilles could have died of asphyxiation. "Baby saved our lives, he's a hero," enthuses his owner.
