This is just one step. But it was necessary. The vote in the Senate on the immigration law is all the more a success as it was not a foregone conclusion at the beginning of the week. But a success for whom? For now, for everyone. This is a victory for Les Républicains first. Under the leadership of Bruno Retailleau, they have obtained an undeniable tightening with the abolition of the famous Article 3 on the regularisation of undocumented migrants, that of Article 4 on the authorisation to work of asylum seekers, the transformation of the AME, the reinstatement of the offence of illegal residence and the tightening of the conditions for family reunification.
Clearly, the immigration law that came out of the Senate is a right-wing text and moreover accepted as such by the government. Retailleau's tenacity paid off. This is also a source of satisfaction for the centrists. Their president, Hervé Marseille, fought for the maintenance of a legislative provision on regularizations. He got a win...
