At the Children's Bible Week in Wartenberg, 48 children dealt with the topic of "shalom" in a variety of ways.

Wartenberg – Due to the war in Ukraine and the ever-escalating Middle East conflict, the issue of violence is currently occupying people across Europe. In these times, the motto of the Children's Bible Week in Wartenberg, "We seek peace – shalom," came at just the right time. This year, too, children from Wartenberg, Langenpreising and Berglern were offered a varied programme for four days.

A total of 48 children took part in the ecumenical project. "Before Corona, we often had over 100 participants, but since the end of the pandemic, the trend has been rising," reports religious educator Julian Kargl from the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Moosburg. All children from Wartenberg and the surrounding area are always invited to the Children's Bible Week. "The denomination doesn't play a role either," explains Kargl.

On the agenda were activities such as crafts, games and baking. The children were read stories from the Bible in which Jesus tells of peace. The performance of short plays was also on the program. A total of 17 volunteers have been involved in providing food and entertainment for the participants.

"Since I also work as a teacher in a primary school, I noticed that the Ukraine war is also on the minds of many children," Kargl explains the choice of motto. During the Children's Bible Week, however, the children were less concerned with the war and more concerned with ways to establish peaceful coexistence. (mfa)
