The incident took place in Gentioux-Pigerolles, a few hours before the commemorations of the 1918 armistice. A gendarmerie investigation is underway.

Several pro-Palestinian inscriptions have been tagged on the war memorial of Gentioux-Pigerolles, in the Creuse, learned Le Figaro from a source close to the file, confirming information from France 3. These tags were discovered by municipal agents around 8 a.m., a few hours before the commemorations of the 1918 armistice, our colleagues specify.

According to our information, three sides of the monument were damaged, probably during the night of Friday to Saturday. A Palestinian flag was painted on one side, the inscription "Free Palestine" was spray-painted on another, and two inscriptions in Arabic were written on the third.

An investigation has been entrusted to the local gendarmerie brigade in conjunction with the Guéret prosecutor's office. Biological samples and paint samples were taken on Saturday morning by a criminal identification technician.

'A heinous and stupid act'

On X (formerly Twitter), the prefect of the Creuse department "strongly condemned the new degradation of the war memorial in Gentioux-Pigerolles last night". "This heinous and stupid act, committed on the day when we pay tribute to all our dead for France, is an insult to our republican values," continues the prefect.

«

It is unacceptable, and criminally reprehensible, to sully the memory of those who died for France, who gave their lives for our freedom and our values. Such damage on 11 November, a day of national remembrance in memory of our dead, is scandalous. An investigation has been opened by the national gendarmerie to shed light on the perpetrator(s) of these facts," the Creuse prefecture said in a press release.
