But who could have poisoned Marianna Budanova? And how could the wife of Kyrylo Budanov, the powerful head of GUR (Ukrainian military intelligence), have been reached? Since the outbreak of the war, however, Marianna Budanova has not strayed from her husband for security reasons - "bliss is never far from me because my wife lives in my office 24/24," Budanov said on Radio Svoboda on 7 August. The office in question is located at the GUR headquarters in Kyiv - a headquarters that Russia attempted to strike with a missile on May 7. But this time the threat seems to come from much lower.
On 28 November, Andriy Yusov, spokesman for the GUR, told AFP that Marianna Budanova had been "the target" of poisoning - she rather than her husband, since it would be "simply impossible to reach (Budanov) in this way". The poisoning would have been made with heavy metals, "in particular mercury and arsenic", traces of which were also found...
