An American military plane crashed Tuesday night (between Tuesday and Wednesday) in Japan. The Osprey military aircraft had eight crew members on board at the time of the crash, which occurred off the coast of Yakushima Island.

According to local media reports, a search is currently underway for most of the crew at sea, but at least one of the eight is believed to have been killed.

The crash occurred around 15 p.m. local time, when minutes earlier the plane disappeared from radar. Witnesses reported that the plane's left engine was on fire during what appeared to be a "crash doubt and crash doubt a rape landing." According to unconfirmed reports, local fishing boats in the area managed to rescue three of the crew members alive, but no official confirmation has yet been received.
