President of the First Great Court of Zion Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef: "Mourning for the murder of the Gaon Dayan, Rabbi Elimelech Wasserman, who was murdered by Bnei Awla this morning in Jerusalem. Rabbi Wasserman was a Torah scholar and one of the most distinguished men, and even after he retired, he insisted on continuing to act on behalf of the litigants.

"The rabbinical courts will lack his majestic figure who influenced but goodness and kindness. And may death be swallowed up forever, and may the Lord wipe away a tear from every face, we are Gentiles with Him, for the blood of His servants will arise and vengeance will return to His woes, Amen."

Minister of Religious Affairs Michael Malkieli sent condolences to the families, writing: "Rabbi Wasserman served the people of Israel for many years with devotion and lightheartedness."

It was with sorrow and astonishment that I received the news of the murder by the wrongdoers of the Gaon Dayan, Rabbi Elimelech Wasserman, who was on his way to the court in Ashdod.

Rabbi Wasserman, one of the oldest and most important judges in the courts of Israel, served the people of Israel for many years with devotion and lightheartedness.

My condolences to his dear family who have no longer known grief.

May his memory be blessed.
