A 47-year-old tax consultant lawyer from Beit Shemesh and the owner of a company were detained on Monday for questioning on suspicion of fraud and fraud by the tax authorities. It is suspected that they presented forged certificates of active reserve service in an iron sword war for customers who do not serve in the reserves in order to shorten the time to receive tax refunds. Other suspects from the company were also detained.

The National Unit for Combating Economic Crime at Lahav 433, in collaboration with the Tax Authority's Central Investigations Assessor, conducted an undercover investigation over the past two months, during which suspicions arose of fraudulent receipt and offenses under the Income Ordinance.

With the outbreak of the Iron Sword War, the Tax Authority opened a new channel for representatives, whereby those who submit a request for tax refunds and meet the category of active reserve duty will be able to receive priority in line and receive tax returns quickly.

The investigation revealed that the suspect submitted dozens of requests to the Tax Authority for tax refunds for civilians, presenting forged documents allegedly attesting to their active reserve service in the Iron Sword War, even though they do not serve in the reserves and the documents submitted on their behalf are forged and contain false statements.

The investigation also revealed that the suspect worked together with a company engaged in locating potential tax returnees, and in return the company received commissions from opening the file and tax returns.
