In fact, the latest survey of sentinel hospitals adhering to Fiaso shows a growth in patients of 15.4%. An increase that at the moment is not affecting intensive care, which stands at 4% of the total number of hospitalized.
77% of patients, explains Fiaso, are hospitalized 'With Covid', i.e. they are in hospital for other causes without relevant symptoms to be referred to SarsCoV2 infection.
23% occupy beds in infectious diseases or 'For Covid' medicines, with respiratory and pulmonary syndromes, but 90% also have other pathologies that aggravate the clinical picture. The overall median age is 76 years. Data collected by the Italian Federation of Health and Hospital Companies indicate that cases are doubling in children's hospitals or in the pediatric wards of sentinel hospitals, although the number is still quite low, there are no children in intensive care and hospitalizations continue to be concentrated in the age group between 0-4 years.
"As we expected, the constant increase in hospitalizations is confirmed, without any particular criticality on hospitals, which follows the increase in the circulation of the virus in recent weeks - explains the president of Fiaso, Giovanni Migliore - the most affected category, i.e. the elderly with other pathologies who need hospitalization, does not change.
Unfortunately, it is necessary to point out that although the risk indications are clear, the number of Covid vaccine administrations carried out in the last week has nevertheless decreased".
