Staff Sgt. Orel Bashan, 20, from Haifa, a soldier in the 603rd Engineer Battalion, the "Saar Megolan" Brigade (7), fell yesterday in battle in the southern Gaza Strip, as a result of an anti-tank missile hitting the engineering vehicle in which he and his teammates were staying.
Eli Dukorsky, mayor of Kiryat Bialik, eulogized him: "Orel grew up and was educated in Kiryat Bialik. He attended Bialik elementary school and Afek middle school. On 6 November 11, he went on vacation at his mother's home for the first time since the Iron Swords War began. His mother wrote on Facebook at the time: 'How I waited to breathe him, how I waited to kiss and hug him.' Liat will no longer breathe Orel, her son who fell in battle for the defense of the homeland. I send my condolences to his parents and sister and mourn his downfall together with all the residents of Kiryat Bialik."

His funeral will take place today (Sunday) in the Kiryat Yam military section of the Tzur Shalom cemetery, at 15:00.
