Rabbi Yaakov Medan, one of the elders of the rabbis of Religious Zionism, decided to wash dishes in the yeshiva kitchen • The reason – the kitchen workers were recruited for reserve duty

The students of the Har Etzion Yeshiva were shocked to discover that the head of the yeshiva and one of the greatest rabbis of Religious Zionism, Rabbi Yaakov Medan, entered the yeshiva dining room during the day and insisted on washing the dishes himself, while refusing to have the students replace him.

The reason for the event, which surprised the students by Rabbi Medan's humility, was that a large part of the kitchen workers had been drafted into reserve duty during the war. Rabbi Medan saw that Yeshiva Director General Yoni Holzer had entered the dishwashing station and decided to join him for the washing.

Rabbi Medan is currently dealing with the serious injury of his son Elisha, who lost both legs during the fierce battles in the Gaza Strip. Yeshiva Har Etzion lost two of its graduates who also fought in Gaza on Monday – a reserve sergeant Yakir Hekster, 26, from Jerusalem, and a reserve sergeant major, David Schwartz, 26, from Elazar. Rabbi Amnon Bezeq, who was their teacher, wrote on Facebook: "They are both gentle souls, with a heart of gold, lovers of Torah, spreading light and goodness around them, talented and wise, humble and humble, loved by all their friends. Both continued in the footsteps of their forefathers and studied like them at Yeshiva Har Etzion, together with many members of their families."
