"The M5S is an exception.
We voted no to sending additional military supplies to Ukraine." This was underlined by the leader of the M5SG, iuseppe Conte, summoning reporters to the party's headquarters in Via Campo Marzio.
"Even a few months ago," he recalls, "Meloni was betting on victory over Russia. A bet that we have never made because we believe that going along with this military escalation takes away a way out. The only way out is negotiation, peace negotiations, and we have to focus all our political and diplomatic efforts there." "Instead," Conte continued, "the result is a government that continues to follow Washington's indications and instructions, to passively bend to this bellicose logic of a military escalation that is bearing fruit other than further death and destruction."
"Today," he continues, "one of our proposals was also rejected, which was to tax the war industries which, especially in the last two years, have been gaining enormous advantages and profits. The government should have the decency to be able to redistribute, through taxation, to the benefit of households and businesses in difficulty due to high petrol prices and high mortgage prices. But nothing. Nothing for the emergencies of the Italians. Instead, we continue to follow the indications that come to us from abroad...".
