After Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas' appeal to Taylor Swift, an idea is taking shape in the EU Commission: to engage a veritable parade of European music stars to bring citizens closer to the EU ahead of the June vote.
According to Euronews, the Commission could sign stars such as Spain's Rosalia, Belgium's Angele and Stromae, and even Maneskin.
Other musical artists, as well as athletes and football players deemed sufficiently popular, will also be contacted through their media representatives, explained a European official who said that the selection of European-born celebrities will try to have a geographical balance to reach the largest number of citizens in the 27 member states.
The selection of names revealed on Thursday is deliberately designed to appeal to young voters: Rosalía, Maneskin, Angèle and Stromae are among the most popular artists of the moment, with a strong following on social media that Brussels hopes to be able to use to spread awareness about the continental elections. Also because in 4 countries - Germany, Malta, Austria and Belgium - to vote in the European elections it will be enough to be 16 years old and not eighteen.
