Sweden's Mattias Ekström (Audi) set the fastest time at the end of the eighth stage of the Dakar-2024, between Al-Duwadimi and Hail, in Saudi Arabia, ahead of his teammate Stéphane Peterhansel, at 2'45".
Far behind in the overall standings after suspension problems on Sunday, Mattias Ekström won his second stage, after the prologue in Al-Ula on January 5. Completing the podium was Guerlain Chicherit (Toyota), sixth overall, 3'10" behind Ekström's Audi.
It was a tricky stage for Sébastien Loeb (Prodrive). The French man and his co-driver Fabian Lurquin made a navigation error that cost him 5'47" ahead of the leader of the overall standings, the Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Audi), fourth at 5'13".
Dakar-2024 to forget for five-time winner Nasser Al-Attiyah (Prodrive), who suffered an engine failure at km 62.
