A week ago, Uruguayan businessman Gonzalo Aguiar (46)
was murdered by his ex-partner
and mother of his daughter Romina Camejo (26) in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Punta del Este.
At the hearing on Tuesday, the prosecution imposed limiting measures for Camejo, who will not be able to leave his home in Montevideo for the
next 150 days
, while the investigation continues to prove whether he acted in legitimate defense or not.
Uruguayan media confirm that
news on the case is expected this week.
As best he could
confirm to
Clarín
,
Prosecutor Sebastián Robles requested more expertise
in the residence where the incident occurred, on Mar de Coral and Mar Chiquita streets.
The media
El Observador
points out that summonses can be expected soon, including from Camejo, although his inner circle maintains that for now there is no notification of this.
The focus of the investigation would now be on an associate and friend of Aguiar named
Pedro Cean
.
This man is an artistic producer and would appear to be the one who rented the chalet where the crime took place.
In that residence known as “Melody”, not only Camejo and his baby lived, but also Aguiar's father and Cean's family.
According to journalistic sources detailed to
Clarín,
this man was trusted by both Aguiar and Camejo, and had a lot of management in the deceased's businesses.
El Observador
confirms that days before the tragic outcome, Cean had left the residence to go on a trip.
However, one of her children, 14 years old, was present and witnessed the episode.
Pedro Cean, Aguiar's partner who is now in the crosshairs of the investigation.
“Aguiar's ex-partner, Romina Camejo, who was released with limiting measures, is expected to be summoned again as well as
some people who were part of the murdered businessman's inner circle
,” the same newspaper reported.
“It is expected that in the coming days the investigations will continue and new testimonies will be sought to support those that already exist.
But there is still no formal notification
,” says one of Camejo's relatives in dialogue with
Clarín
.
The word of the defense lawyer, Camilo Silvera, is the same: “I am not aware of subpoenas.”
The expertise of Camejo and Aguiar's mobile phones would still remain.
“There is an issue of the times witnessed by the girl who was accompanying Gonzalo (Aguiar) in the truck.
She speaks of approximately a minute and a half between Gonzalo getting off and the detonations being heard.
Some aspects related to that must be established.
On the other hand, we must establish, as I was able to learn from investigation sources, the fact that
Gonzalo was constantly going to the house
,” says a Uruguayan journalist.
In dialogue with
Clarín
, Romina's close environment had confessed that the young woman and the Uruguayan businessman had returned days before she killed him.
Camejo's family suggested that the girl could have had a relationship with him again under threats.

The same journalistic sources detail that it is known, through the investigation, that the
lock at the entrance door to the house had been broken
for a few days, and that a very heavy wooden bench was placed against the door.
To enter, all you had to do was push the door hard.
Aguiar's family in Canada cannot travel because the borders are closed due to the investigation into an alleged scam that surrounds him.
However, it is likely that in the coming days one of the businessman's children will arrive in Uruguay.
For now, they already have a law firm to confront Camejo.
The fraud complaint
Gonzalo Aguiar arrived in Uruguay in 2019 after living for many years in Canada, where he has a family, with a son and a wife from whom he -apparently- did not separate.
That is why Camejo's relatives always referred to their marriage as a “fictitious” one, since the record was never found in the Civil Registry.
Aguiar's lies occurred in both his private and professional life, since in 2023 he was denounced before the Court of Canada for having carried out an impressive embezzlement of money in Uruguay with the funds invested by the medical cannabis production company Boreal ( Ignapin SA).

Although Aguiar has died and the criminal action against him has been extinguished, the Money Laundering Prosecutor's Office is carrying out the investigation into the
origin of all his assets
to find out if he laundered money through these purchases.
There is a complaint filed before the Justice that was published by
El Observador
, where it is stated that although a part of the money was used to direct the project, several million were used to "buy
sumptuous goods in their name
, give gifts to relatives of their love ties, lavish travel around the world and countless other million-dollar personal expenses.”
The complainant points out that there are certain assets obtained by Aguiar that would have been purchased with this money: “La Maison” in Punta del Este, two pieces of land in the same resort, a house in Prado and another in Ciudad de la Costa, a yacht , a Ferrari 458 Spider car, a BMW M3, a Volkswagen Tiguan truck, two jet skis and two quadricycles.
It is no small fact that the complaint also points out the frequency of Aguiar making ostentatious trips.
