Lakes and castles: Brandenburg is so beautiful

2019-08-30T03:22:33.106Z

The choice is hard: Should it be a jump in one of the many lakes, a bike ride to castles or just want to enjoy #Vanlife? Here are great destinations around Berlin.

Only in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern live fewer people on one square kilometer - therefore play in Brandenburg wide landscapes a large role. Good for all tourists and excursionists who want to escape from the Moloch Berlin or beyond the state capital Potsdam. At the same time, the state is also considered the richest in water in Germany - with as many as 3,000 natural lakes, the artificially created Lusatian Lakeland and the larger Havel and Spree rivers.

2018 made only 4.6 million German holiday in Brandenburg, states Statista. By comparison, in smaller Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, there were 7.47 million. The federal state, which completely surrounds Berlin, is varied: water sports enthusiasts such as sailors and paddlers will find their territories, cyclists a flat road network, nature lovers at least 15 large nature reserves - including biosphere reserves on the UNESCO World Heritage List - and culture-minded castles such as Sanssouci, Rheinsberg and Boitzenburg.

Those who can not decide or prefer to see everything can just swing into the car and gondola through the landscape. Or just as Inka Chall makes her VW bus clear and from Berlin always looking for new ways into the surrounding area:

Tourists from the rest of Germany appreciate Brandenburg's proximity to the capital - so they can spend the night in the countryside and make a detour to Berlin's museums and shopping streets during the day. There are even campsites that become the summer home of capital cities in the hot months. As at Lake Templin in Potsdam, on the Oberuckersee or in the Spreewald:

The innumerable providers of houseboats offer a place to stay right on the waters - that does not even require a boat license. Gray herons, beavers, storks and cormorants can be seen from the breakfast table. Tips for leisurely cruising on the Havel and in the Lusatian Lakeland we give here:

Brandenburg, the land of castles, manor houses and aristocratic residences, can be reached along the 180 kilometer long Märkische Schloss tour. By bike you need about three days - and in between you can stop at Scharmützelsee, Oderbruch or Märkische Schweiz Nature Park. About this route - and five others in Germany - read more:
