Sunk Boeing 747 off Bahrain: Dive instead of take off

2019-09-18T02:55:44.375Z

Divers, watch out! There is a new place for the bucket list: off the coast of Bahrain is currently a huge underwater theme park. The main attraction is a sunken aircraft.

This Boeing 747 can no longer take off. If you want to visit them, you have to dive: a good 20 meters deep, in the sea north of Bahrain. This is where the largest underwater theme park in the world is being built, as the creators of "Dive Bahrain" say.

100,000 square meters is to become this attraction, whose goal according to the initiators is the revival and the preservation of the local marine environment. Since September 7, a first part is open to the public. He was opened by Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani, Bahrain's Minister of Industry and Tourism.

Plane as dive spot: Flossenfreiheit

At the heart of the Marine Park is a discarded aircraft that was sunk in June - it is said to be the largest ever used as an artificial reef. The 70-meter-long Boeing 747 also serves as an eye-catcher. Where passengers once allegedly complained about too little legroom, now is enough room for powerful leg strikes with diving fins. While clouds used to fly past the window, they are now fish.

Trend to the unusual diver spot

According to a statement, the organizers want to provide oceanographers with information and data from the project, thereby drawing attention to the relevance of nature conservation. The "eco-friendly project" is intended to commemorate the history of the Kingdom of Bahrain, which is "heavily influenced by the sea". Part of the underwater park should be even more attractions, such as the replica of a pearl merchants house.

In order to protect the divers underwater no danger, professionals have checked all attractions for their safety. If you want to go down, you have to book a tour with a certified provider.

That disused airplanes land on the seabed for tourism purposes, is apparently in vogue. In the Red Sea, off the coast of Jordan, interested people can dive into a sunken combat helicopter. And in the Turkish Aegean, an Airbus A330 was recently sunk to attract sea dwellers and underwater tourists.
