"Electric whiz kid": Porsche and Boeing want to develop electric aircraft

2019-10-10T14:56:21.499Z

Car companies such as Daimler and Toyota are investing millions worldwide to reinvent flying with the help of passenger drones. Now Porsche and Boeing are also entering the business.

The sports car manufacturer Porsche wants to enter the long-term business with electric aircraft and is doing so together with the US aircraft manufacturer Boeing. Among other things, the two companies want to develop and test an electric whiz-starter for use in cities.

For this purpose, a corresponding letter of intent has been signed. "We bring together the strengths of two world-leading companies to tackle a potentially important market segment of the future," said Porsche sales executive Detlev von Platen. In the project, experts from both companies and various subsidiaries are to work together.

The sports car manufacturer is not alone in his search for new mobility concepts and the interest in electric aircraft, which should one day be able to bring passengers from A to B autonomously. For example, in the Volocopter, which is currently undergoing test flights in various cities, Daimler is also on board.
