The Federal Government has agreed to increase the air traffic tax. According to it, flights in Europe instead of previously with 7.50 euro with 11,25 euro are taxed. Other medium- haul flights have a tax of 30 euros and long-distance flights 54 euros .
This emerges from a draft bill of the Federal Ministry of Finance, on which the coalition tips have agreed this week and the SPIEGEL present. The revenue would be slightly more than 500 million euros and should offset the VAT reduction on long-distance travel of the railway.
The black-and-white coalition is thus implementing the resolutions from its climate protection program. This week, the Federal Cabinet has already passed the Climate Protection Act, which provides for a mechanism to monitor climate targets. In the coming week, the Cabinet wants to deal with at least two draft laws that affect tax law.
Mobility bonus for some commuters
With the commuter allowance, which is set to increase from 30 to 35 cents per kilometer, the government has also agreed to introduce a so-called mobility bonus for low paid workers.
It would affect around 200,000 professionals who, because of their low income, would not benefit from the increase in commuter tax rates because they do not pay income tax. So far, according to SPIEGEL information, the coalition has not been able to agree on an amount of the mobility bonus yet.
The Aviation Tax Law and the regulation on the commuter commuter tax will come to the Federal Cabinet next Wednesday. An increase in the car tax for cars with high CO2 emissions will be designed later.
