BEIJING (Reuters) - China on Tuesday rejected US allegations of tightening the noose on US companies and preventing them from making business gains in China, saying economic bullying was the prerogative of the United States.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Qingying told a news conference that the abuse of long-term jurisdiction is a special US practice that China strongly opposes, does not care about and will never accept from the United States.
"Long-term jurisdiction is a tool for unilateral sanctions and bullying by the United States against foreign entities and individuals in accordance with their own laws."
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently claimed that the Chinese government is using long-term jurisdiction over US companies, making it difficult to make profits in China.
"Some individuals in the United States are tarnishing China's image for their own sake or political plots and have used various despicable ways," said Ying, calling for a return to rationality as soon as possible.
Ying stressed that integration and opening-up are the right direction as China expands its openness to all countries, including the United States, and hopes that the United States will open its doors to it and reduce unreasonable restrictions.
