The European Commission counts 41 percent women in their leadership positions. The number has increased within five years by more than a third, the Brussels authority said.
This refers to the middle and higher management in the administration with around 32,000 employees. These include, for example, department heads, general directors or their deputies. Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker said he was proud that his target of 40 percent by 2019 had actually been achieved. Equality is one of the fundamental values of the European Union.
Juncker's term ends on November 1st. He is followed by Ursula von der Leyen. She has already announced that she intends to further advance the equal number of management positions in her office.
