Millimeter by millimeter, Rubjerg Knude Fyr jerked across the sand for hours. Since the morning, thousands watched the unusual spectacle at Lønstrup in Hjørring in West Jutland. Hovered onto rolling elements, the 23-meter-high lighthouse on the Rubjerg Knude dune moved across the rails into the interior.

Displacement of Rubjerg Knude: Millimeter by Millimeter70 meters from its original location, the 700-tonne tower reached its new home in six hours. As soon as the foundations have been anchored and the building repainted, it is to be open to visitors again. It is planned that starting from the 16. November, announces the tourism center Visit Denmark. For the move, the government approved in 2018 about five million Danish kroner (about 670,000 euros).
The lighthouse was built from 1899, but is no longer in service since 1968. Due to its exposed location 60 meters above sea level, however, it is one of the most visited tourist attraction in North Jutland with around 250,000 visitors a year. The erosion of the coast threatened to bring the construction to a standstill.
