For years, Thomas Cook has stood for the successful organization of holiday trips - up to the bankruptcy just over a month ago. The Chinese conglomerate Fosun has now bought the naming rights of the British travel company. The subsidiary Fosun Tourism is paying £ 11 million, equivalent to around € 12.74 million, for the rights to the name of the brand and the hotel chains Casa Cook and Cook's Club, Fosun Tourism said. The brand is intended to market travel throughout the world.
The traditional company Thomas Cook had ceased operations immediately after filing for bankruptcy. A planned complete takeover by the shareholder Fosun had previously failed. After the bankruptcy of the parent company, the German subsidiary also had to file for bankruptcy. The brands include Neckermann, Öger Tours and Bucher Reisen.
"The acquisition of the Thomas Cook brand allows the group to expand its tourism businesses," said Fosun Tourism chief Qian Jiannong, according to the announcement. To this end, the company relies on the broad acquaintance of Thomas Cook and the strong growth of Chinese foreign tourism. In addition, synergies with other brands should be created.
