The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has announced that Beijing and Washington have agreed to phase out additional tariffs in stages without setting a timetable.
"Over the past two weeks, China and the United States have agreed to abolish the additional tariffs at various stages after serious and constructive negotiations on resolving various key issues," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Gao Feng was quoted as saying at a press conference.
The spokesman pointed out that the abolition of tariffs was an important condition for any agreement where the two sides must cancel some tariffs on each other's goods at the same time to reach an agreement "phase I" in this regard, pointing out that the trade war began tariffs and must end with the abolition.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced last Friday that the Chinese and US negotiating teams reached a preliminary agreement on trade between the two countries.
Trade relations between China and the United States have recently witnessed severe tension that began when US President Donald Trump launched a trade war with China and imposed duties on Chinese imports and goods in a desperate attempt to pressure Beijing to make illegal trade concessions, which China responded with similar measures within its natural right of reply.
