The Chinese tech group Huawei has apparently paid its employees about 260 million euros to become more technologically independent of the United States. This is from a message from the Huawei Human Resources Department to the staff, which the Reuters news agency was able to see.
Accordingly, the sum was paid out to employees who helped find and develop alternatives to US components. In addition, the wage for this month has been doubled for almost all 190,000 employees, said a company spokesman.
The Chinese company is under heavy pressure from the US government under Donald Trump. In May, it banned nearly all American companies from cooperating with Huawei and imposed sanctions.
Serious allegations from the US
The US blacklisted Huawei in May for its November 19 entry into force. The US fears that the telecommunications equipment provider will allow espionage. Huawei rejects the spy allegations. This would make it illegal for the US subsidiary of Huawei to pass certain technologies to the parent company. In addition, US companies are no longer allowed to do business with Huawei. This is a problem for the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, because Google's Android operating system is running on their devices.
