Lower health insurance contributions: Spahn wants to relieve company pensioners

2019-11-12T11:31:52.161Z

Retirees should pay lower contributions to the health insurance from 2020 onwards. A corresponding bill has been presented by Health Minister Spahn.

Recipients of occupational pensions must in principle also pay the full health insurance contribution on their pensions - in addition to the employee share and the employer's share. But there are limits to pensions to which the contributions are not or only partially due. This Minister of Health Jens Spahn wants to raise significantly from 2020 on.

In the future, company pensioners are to pay a maximum of half the contribution rate for salaries up to € 318. This is the case for 60 percent of recipients. The remaining 40 percent should be relieved by a higher allowance, from which contributions are due at all. From now on, this should be the case, according to government circles only from a pension of 159 € instead of 155.75 € previously.

As high a cost as for the basic pension

"We want to strengthen the confidence in the company pension," said the CDU politician. Those who take precautions for old age should not be "the stoned one". According to a spokesman for the authorities, the minister has now submitted a legal wording to implement a decision of principle of the weekend coalition committee.

The statutory health insurance escaped through the plans 1.2 billion euros annually. The sum, which roughly corresponds to the estimated costs for the basic pension, should be borne by the funds themselves. The funds are to use their reserves for this purpose.
