The fast food chain McDonald's wants to reduce plastic packaging in their desserts. In the European branches, the ice cream McFlurry from next year to be offered without plastic lid and plastic spoon, as the company announced. In addition, they want to ensure that outside of Europe by 2025, all packaging materials "come only from renewable, recycled or certified sources."
According to EU regulations, the US fast-food giant has to completely remove plastic products such as straws and balloon holders by 2021 anyway. Therefore, McDonald's wants to offer paper cups and alternative drinking straws for its shakes. In Germany, the balloon holders will be abolished this year.
According to the company, the company wants to save around 1,000 tons of plastic a year by switching to the dessert sector alone. McDonald's operates 37,000 stores worldwide.
