The wind energy industry has demanded a "signal of departure" from the federal government in view of the sluggish expansion. What is needed is a clear plan for simplified approval procedures, said the German Wind Energy Association, the IG Metall and the Mechanical Engineering Association VDMA after a meeting with Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU).
The federal and state governments should quickly reach agreements to accelerate permits and find solutions to biodiversity. "These signals are important for the credibility of climate policy with a reliable industry perspective," reads the statement issued by the dpa news agency.
The expansion of wind power on land has almost come to a standstill in Germany this year. The German plant manufacturer Senvion had to file for bankruptcy, the company Enercon from Aurich in Lower Saxony has been hit. In addition, there is a dispute over planned stricter regulations on the distance between wind turbines and housing estates.
The industry's conversation with Altmaier had been intense and comprehensive, it said. "Following on from the Wind Summit, we explained the chances for a new start to the German domestic market." The industry, together with IG Metall, has underpinned the "strong importance of a revival of the home market" for the wind industry and export opportunities.
