British Fashion Awards 2019: Choose your winning look

From a mere industry event in the British fashion industry, the British Fashion Awards have become a glamorous A-list event. Hollywood nobility, pop stars, supermodels, style icons and almost all major fashion designers were in London on Monday. A short excerpt from the guest list: Cate Blanchett, Julia Roberts, Giorgio Armani, Janet Jackson and Rihanna.

Whereby Rihanna counts in several categories: music, film, style, fashion - all done, usually successful. Awarded the woman from Barbados but only for her fashion label Fenty. The joint project between Rihanna and the French holding LVMH received the "Urban Luxe" award because it redefined "luxury and brings culture into conversation".

In fact, the venture is remarkable. First, because a black man at the head of such a company is still an exception, especially when it is the first re-establishment of the powerful LVMH group since 1987. But Fenty does a lot of other things as well. The fashion line dispenses with the usual seasonal plan and throws their products in so-called drops on the market. In the process, the target group is made hot with advertising in advance, before the parts are then available for a short period of time, usually only in certain locations and only in limited editions.

Fenty is also well designed, as you could see in the boss. Rihanna of course appeared in a self-creation to her honor, a multi-layered silk coat over a minidress and Riemchenpumps, all shining mint green. As a two-legged accessory, the singer had the rapper A $ AP Rocky in tow, who recently sat in Sweden.

The big winner of the evening is neither A $ AP Rocky nor Rihanna, but Daniel Lee. The 32-year-old replaced Tomas Maier in 2018 after 17 years as creative director at Bottega Veneta and is considered a prodigy of the industry. He learned his craft in London and then refined it under Phoebe Philo at Celine in Paris, where he rose to the head of the ready-to-wear line. Lee returned home with four awards from the Royal Albert Hall, including the "Designer of the Year" and the "British Designer of the Year Womenswear."

The British Fashion Awards are there for creativity and renewal in the fashion industry. The approximately 2,500 members of the British Fashion Council appoint people and brands who have excelled in the past twelve months. The complete list of winners can be found here.
