The general strike in France also affects travelers from Germany . On strike days found in long-distance trains no trains to and from France, said the Deutsche Bahn .
Affected
- the ICE connections from Frankfurt via Mannheim and Saarbrücken to Paris as well as from Munich via Stuttgart and Strasbourg to Paris,
- as well as the TGV connection Frankfurt-Mannheim-Strasbourg-Marseille.
This applies in any case for this Thursday. How it will continue in the coming days, is still unclear, said a spokesman.
The train called travelers to inform themselves on the internet and offered a free rebooking. The company says it expects the strike to last for several days.
Lufthansa also called on travelers to France to get information online. According to a spokesman, nine flights have been canceled this Thursday, including flights to Paris, Lyon and Marseille. Affected passengers would be notified.
In France, during the general strike, workers are also on strike at SNCF, the Parisian public transport company RATP and ground staff at airports. As a result, there are massive traffic disruptions across the country and long traffic jams on the roads.
- Train traffic throughout France is severely disrupted at least on Thursday. SNCF has announced that only one in ten TGV will go. For regional trains it looks similar. The rail traffic to Germany is largely paralyzed.
- The situation will be particularly severe in Paris. Most of the metro lines are closed to traffic. Buses and trams are extremely limited.
- At least 20 percent of the aircraft at the airports remain on the ground.
The protests are likely to continue, especially in rail transport. "I think this (protest) movement will continue in the coming days," Transport State Secretary Jean-Baptiste Djebbari told news channel BFMTV. Reason is a planned pension reform.
