The US aircraft manufacturer Boeing will suspend further production of further 737 Max models in January. This is reported by the "Wall Street Journal" citing insiders.
The paper had already reported on Sunday that a decision could be made on Monday about further production. The company management sees a production break as the most viable option, it said.
The US aeronautical regulator FAA recently informed Boeing that the group could not count on the 737 Max being quickly re-registered. The agency also urged the aircraft manufacturer to hold back public statements about the certification process. According to the FAA statement, Boeing's shares on the stock exchange had given in significantly.
The 737 Max - Boeing's best-selling aircraft - has not been able to take off within five months of March because of two crashes. A total of 346 people were killed in the accident.
Why was the model approved?
In addition to the production stop, Boeing is also severely impacting the failures of the 737 Max that have already been sold. The US airline Southwest Airlines is receiving financial compensation from the Boeing group for the worldwide flight ban.
Southwest Airlines had recently confirmed an agreement to this effect, without stating the amount of the compensation. The airline, the world's largest buyer of the model, said it wanted to pass $ 125 million on to its employees.
