LONDON-SANA, a study by the Retail Trade Research Center revealed that Britain's trade sector lost more than 140,000 jobs

London-Sana

A study by the Center for Retail Trade Research revealed that the trade sector in Britain lost more than 140 thousand jobs in the current year 2019, which made it one of the worst years in a quarter of a century, due to the great difficulties faced by many brands regarding the growing electronic sales.

Agence France-Presse quoted the study published today that, in total, about 134,128 jobs were cut in British stores during 2019, that is, 2750 jobs per week.

This number is much higher than the number of jobs that were abolished in 2018, and reached 117,450 jobs.

This outcome is among the worst in a quarter of a century in the British trade sector and constitutes an indication of a serious crisis in this sector amid the declaration of bankruptcy and restructuring of many brands that have vacated the commercial sector in cities.

The study showed that the stores are facing higher costs, less revenue, and a portion of the market that is lost in the online purchase account.

Britain has witnessed many resounding bankruptcies two years ago, such as Debenhams stores, which were immediately bought by creditors and "House or Fraser", which was bought by "Sport Direct", while the "Marks and Spencer" series announced the closure of many stores.

The study showed pessimism for the year 2020 and expected to abolish a number of jobs that could reach 171 thousand if the government did not intervene to help the distributors.
