The delivery contract to the Lufthansa Group in San Francisco runs for a volume of 3.8 million liters. It is fuel from agricultural waste fats and oils from a World Energy refinery in California. Up to 30 percent of this is added to conventional kerosene.

The industry primarily relies on more economical engines and compensatory measures. The development of sustainable synthetic fuels and sales are still in their infancy; a marketable solution is not in sight.
