An important step will be taken this Thursday to make the Franco-German future combat air system (Scaf) project operational by 2040. A horizon which may seem distant, but which is close from the point of view of industrial. Under the aegis of Florence Parly, the Minister of the Armed Forces, and in the presence of her German counterpart Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, and the Spanish Secretary of State for Defense, Ángel Olivares Ramírez, Joël Barre, the head of the Directorate General of armaments (DGA) will notify, from the Hôtel de Brienne, to French, German and Spanish industrialists a first research and technology contract of 150 million euros. This contract kicks off an 18-month study phase, in order to prepare the construction of demonstrators whose flight tests should start in 2025-2026.
