Europcar resists mobility start-ups

Despite the emergence of new services, car rental continues to experience steady growth.


Airlines, smartphone brands, clothing stores ... the list was already long of sectors affected by the coronavirus. While on Tuesday the epidemic affected two additional regions in Italy and the first contaminations were recorded in Switzerland and Austria, car rental companies active on the Old Continent are wondering if they will not be the next victims of the Covid- 19.

"In quarantined cities, we have recorded a few hundred cancellations," explains Caroline Parot, president of the executive board of the French group Europcar. These players are monitoring the situation very closely, especially since the current period is one in which they must decide the number of vehicles they buy for the summer season.

For the moment, this coronavirus crisis does not call into question the objectives for 2020: Europcar expects an adjusted gross operating surplus of around 300-310 million euros, against 278 million last year.
