In Paris, Airbnb nibbles market share in hotels

Seasonal rentals take up 10% of the nights. The capital needs it to stay ahead of the destinations.


Paris confirms its place as the world's leading Airbnb market. The American nightly apartment rental site and its rivals are constantly gaining market share, much to the chagrin of hoteliers. Last year, overnight stays at a hotel in Île-de-France fell by 0.7% (to 70.7 million), while those spent in a seasonal rental (all platforms combined) increased by 7.6 %: they exceed the threshold of 10 million overnight stays, according to the Paris-Île-de-France Regional Tourism Committee (CRT).

Airbnb does not give its figures, but the platform is archi leader in its category, before a multitude of rivals, including Booking.com. This is the first time that the CRT has announced the use of tourist accommodation in the region: the phenomenon is such that it can no longer be set aside. They now represent 10% of commercial accommodation in all its forms (hotels, youth hostels, etc.).
