The French Competition Authority announced on Tuesday that it had imposed a fine of 900,000 euros on the PMU for not having respected previous commitments on the separation between its “hard” and online bets.
This decision follows a complaint from the online betting companies Betclic and Zeturf.
The Authority considers that the PMU has not respected the commitment to separate its masses of “hard” stakes - in tobacco shops for example - and online for foreign races subject to a partnership between PMU and several foreign operators.
Online gaming and betting has been open to competition since 2010, while point-of-sale betting is still under the PMU's legal monopoly.
