After a month of confinement, the Minister of Action and Public Accounts tried, this Tuesday morning, not to further strain the morale of the French. Invited to the France Inter antenna, Gérald Darmanin reaffirmed the government's desire not to go through a tax increase to turn up the slope in the face of a crisis that promises to be “brutal”, in the words of Prime Minister Édouard Philippe . Economic activity has already dropped by 36%.

" There are two strategies," said Gérald Darmanin. The first is to consider raising taxes. It is not our choice, because in this way, you will demoralize the French ». For the minister, it is therefore necessary to bet on a recovery strategy: " the economic recovery will create revenues to repay the debt ". A debt that should approach 115% of GDP in 2020. " All the countries of the world are affected, there is a common advantage in agreeing to revive activity. There will be no tax increase , "said the minister. The restoration of the ISF is therefore not on the agenda for the government: "going back does not move forward. We need those who have money to put it in businesses. It is not reasonable to restore the ISF ”.

Favoring " bankruptcy debt " is, according to Gérald Darmanin, less costly than taking the risk of seeing companies deprived of state support shut down. " Our public finances are solid, France continues to be able to borrow, " he insisted.
