The peasant union branch in Tartous Governorate continues to process vegetables from farmers in the Akkar Plain and market them to various regions of the governorate and some governorates at cost.
The purpose of renting is to reduce the burden on both farmers and consumers, as Hassan Khuzam, head of the agricultural society in Juba Mujbir village in Tartous countryside, asserts that yesterday a car of 2 tons of tomatoes was rented at a price of 160 Syrian pounds per kilo, indicating that it was sold in the village at a cost price.
In turn, Tahsir Imran and Yasser Ali, from the village people, confirmed that they benefited from the initiative of the Peasant Association, knowing that a kilo of tomatoes is sold in stores in the village and the surrounding villages for an amount ranging from 300 to 400 Syrian pounds.
Mohamed Badra, a resident of the village, indicated that he previously benefited from the association’s initiative to rent potatoes, as a kilogram was sold in stores at 700 Syrian pounds while he bought it through the association for 400 liras, as well as table eggs that were sold in stores at 2550 while he bought it through the association for 2150 liras. The association sold him for 225 pounds while the retail price is 400 Syrian pounds.
