Partial unemployment: Medef demands “reliable” figures

2020-06-11T14:57:50.880Z

Its president estimates that the government "overcommunicated on the number of 12 million, 13 million workers on partial unemployment".

Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, President of Medef, is demanding this Thursday from the government "reliable" figures on partial unemployment before any revision of the device. He considers it possible to review it, "but if and only if the figures are reliable".

However, during a meeting organized Tuesday between the Ministry of Labor and the heads of employers 'and workers' organizations, the Mouvement des entreprises de France "discovered" that the figures communicated for April were "exaggerated" and "that we had to turn around six million full-time equivalent employees ”. In April, 8.6 million workers were partially unemployed, according to the ministry. The figures for May are not yet known.

“The minister over-communicated over 12 million, 13 million workers on short-time working. We have all discovered that these figures are wrong: it is the accumulation of requests for partial unemployment. If you ask for one morning of partial unemployment a month, that counts for one, ”he added. Medef therefore requests “to have precise figures for the month of May and precise figures for the month of June. I think it would be a mistake to move the system before having these figures, ”adds Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux.

"The employees did not choose this situation", advances the CFDT

Alain Griset, president of U2P (Union of local businesses), for his part asked "the cost in euros of the device", ensuring that "it will be much, much less than what was said at the start" . At the start of the confinement in April, the Minister of Labor Muriel Pénicaud indicated that short-time working could cost nearly 20 billion euros, while the device had not yet entered cruising speed.

“If it is a question of lowering the coverage for workers in the weeks and months to come, it is madness! Warned the secretary general of the CFDT during a "big debate" in videoconference between the leaders of the main employers 'and workers' organizations, organized by the Association of Journalists for Social Information (Ajis).

"It will be socially extremely brutal, completely counter-intuitive with the idea of the revival of consumption that we are talking about these days," he added, while the Minister of Labor has been discussing with the unions since Monday and the employers of a new partial unemployment scheme. “The employees did not choose this situation. The CFDT will be opposed to a drop in the coverage of short-time working for employees, ”he insisted.
