It was an open secret that had been talked about for a long time. And this Friday it was finalized: the Minister of Productive Development Matías Kulfas asked Sergio Lanziani to resign as Secretary of Energy. Clarín had anticipated this move.
The current deputy for Neuquén, Darío Martínez (PJ), current president of the Energy Commission of the Lower House, will be appointed in his position . According to sources from that portfolio, Martínez arrives with a very good relationship with Alberto Fernández.
Lanziani, born in Misiones, was away from energy decisions since the beginning of the President's term. It did not participate in tariff decisions or in matters of hydrocarbon policy, such as the "Creole barrel" or the gas stimulus plan. That always put him on the brink of leaving his post.
Kulfas, under whose umbrella is the Ministry of Energy, wanted Lanziani's successor to be someone he trusted. On the other hand, the most Kirchnerist sectors preferred a well-received official to Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
Martínez was a candidate for lieutenant governor in March 2019 for Unidad Ciudadana , the former president's party before forming Juntos por el Cambio. Finally, Omar Gutiérrez, from the Neuquén Popular Party, triumphed.
The position, key to defining tariff increases, fuels and incentives for the production of hydrocarbons, among other issues, was claimed by both "albertistas" and "cristinistas." In the list of possible candidates were Federico Bernal, current controller of Enargas (gas regulator) and Federico Basualdo (current controller of ENRE, of electricity). Aníbal Fernández, who runs the Río Turbio coal company, was also discussed.
Lanziani quickly lost his political livelihood. He arrived after being Secretary of Energy in Misiones. His leap to the national executive branch made him believe that he had the backing of the missionary provincial government. But that disappeared.
