Medical staff cares for a patient: Up to a thousand euros bonus

Many nursing staff are particularly stressed in the corona crisis.
Therefore, those in clinics should now receive a bonus payment.
The statutory health insurances (GKV) apparently want to provide one hundred million euros in order to enable premiums of up to a thousand euros.
That would envisage a joint concept of the GKV-Spitzenverband and the German Hospital Society, reports the news agency dpa, citing negotiating circles.
According to this, the clinics should determine who receives a premium and in what amount - depending on how much nursing staff were used in the treatment of corona patients.
Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) had asked the two associations to develop a corresponding concept.
The background was broad criticism that so far there has only been a bonus for elderly care because of special corona loads.
The situation in clinics is very different
The Bundestag decided on these one-off bonuses of up to a thousand euros in May.
The costs are estimated at around one billion euros - this will initially be borne by long-term care insurance, but the federal government has announced a subsidy.
Countries or employers can increase the bonus to up to 1500 euros, which would remain tax-free.
The federal government had initially also pointed out that the general wage level in geriatric care was significantly lower than that of nursing staff in hospitals.
So far, the crisis has had different effects there.
Sometimes there were special preparations and stresses due to corona patients in intensive care units.
However, a number of other treatments have been suspended or postponed.
