Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer has announced new Corona aid for the aviation industry.

"I will as soon as possible invite you to an air traffic summit that will deal with the consequences of the corona crisis for the entire aviation industry," said the CSU politician to the newspapers of the Funke media group.

"We will have to help and rescue."

Above all, it is about the 22 airports in Germany that employ 180,000 people.

Since only 20 percent of the normal passenger volume is currently being reached, he is "very concerned" that the airports are in danger.

He will therefore submit an "aid concept".

"Anything that closes won't open again"

Scheuer told the dpa news agency that this was aimed at the regional airports, but that the big airports were also being discussed.

The aim is to maintain structure.

"Everything that closes, that is no longer connected, will not open again."

Aviation is one of the industries that is being heavily impacted by the Corona crisis.

Bookings have fallen sharply.

Lufthansa has already received billions in aid.

CEO Carsten Spohr recently made it clear that the previously planned cuts in the fleet and workforce were not enough.
