The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has called on finance ministers from all over the world to invest more state funds in sustainable technologies after the corona pandemic.

Aid packages should be linked to the goals of the Paris climate protection agreement, said Guterres at a virtual meeting of the "coalition of finance ministers for climate protection measures" on Monday.

"Your plans for economic recovery will determine the course for the next 30 years," Guterres told the 50 participating finance ministers.

Among other things, states should invest more in green jobs and industries and stop subsidizing fossil fuels.

"Coal shouldn't be part of reconstruction plans," Guterres said.

The group of finance ministers was founded in 2018 at a meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund and is committed to shaping climate policy through the budgetary policy of the member states.
