Curtain announced at Gap.
The American sportswear brand is preparing to close its 120 stores in Europe, where it is established in France, Italy and the United Kingdom, according to a communication to employees revealed by Le Monde.
These were invited to connect on Tuesday to a meeting of the management of the American group which announced "an update on Gap's activities in Europe".
It was there that they learned that they would lose their jobs by July 2021, reports the daily, with the closure of the brand's three networks.
In France, Gap now has 21 stores, after having closed a dozen since 2019, including that of the Champs-Elysées in Paris, which employed 90 employees.
The health crisis is not the only cause: in recent years, the group with 3666 stores around the world has faced competition from brands such as H&M, Primark, Zara, or even online clothing sales sites.
And the success of the 1990s with his jeans and T-shirts withered away.
In France, the clothing market is in the midst of a crisis and many brands are going through enormous difficulties such as Camaïeu, C&A, but also Naf-Naf, La Halle aux Clothing and André shoes.
