In a brief and surprising statement, Mercado Libre informed its clients this morning that as of November
"when you transfer money to bank accounts to other people you will have 0.5% AFIP taxes
.
"
The note adds that, from next month, "all people and companies will pay the Tax on debits and credits of the AFIP when they
make transfers from Mercado Pago (the company's digital wallet) to third-party bank accounts
.
"
The novelty began to circulate on social networks and caused a stir.
However, from the AFIP and Mercado Libre they agreed to point out that
it is not a new regulation or a change in the tax structure
.
But the possibility of transferring money from a CBU (bank checking account) to a CVU (digital wallet), an operation that would be covered by the Tax on debits and credits, known as the
"check tax"
.
"There is no regulatory or tax change. The companies are withholding agents of a law (check tax) that has existed for 19 years," they explained.
The truth is that the Mercado Pago statement generated confusion and the company itself was preparing a new statement to clarify the issue.
Apparently, everything is due to the company adding a new function to its wallet, which allows you to send money from a digital wallet to a conventional account, which is compared to the check from the tax perspective.
