The technology card continues to be a clear winner in times of pandemic.

The American software giant Microsoft earned 13,893 million dollars (11,822 million euros) between July and September, 30% more than in the same period of the previous year, thanks to the push of its cloud computing platform.

In the last three months -the first of its fiscal year 2021-, the Redmond company (Washington, United States) had a turnover of 37,154 million dollars compared to 33,055 million registered in the same period last year.

Its shareholders pocketed $ 1.84 per share, 44 cents above the 1.40 in the same period last year.

The health crisis, which has driven teleworking and forced digitization of many sectors, has been a boost for several of Microsoft's businesses: although practically all of the business segments of the firm led by Satya Nadella experienced significant increases in the last three months, it is the Azure cloud computing platform that leads them with a year-on-year increase of 48%.

Azure, the main competitor in the Amazon Web Services market, has benefited greatly from the transition to work from home, as companies have turned to the cloud to organize and manage their activities away from the office.

Another segment that has experienced a very pronounced growth has been that of the Xbox video console and its contents (30% year-on-year), something to which the general trend in recent months towards greater consumption of games as an alternative to socialization has contributed. of home.

Also noteworthy are the increases in Dynamics 365 (38%), Surface (37%) and Office 365 Commercial (21%).

“In the next decade, the economic performance of each business will be defined by the speed of its digital transformation.

We are innovating in all our segments to help customers in each industry to convert time into value, increase agility and reduce costs, ”said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in presenting the accounts.

The technology shares closed the session on Tuesday practically flat.
